Sciatica is pain and numbness traveling along the largest nerve from the lower back to the hips, buttocks, and leg(s) and is often called radicular pain. Often, the pain can be severe and debilitating, and resolve itself with self care in a few weeks. If significant leg, bowel or bladder weakness persists, an individual might be a candidate for surgery.
