Understanding the facts about pain and chronic pain is an important part of understanding pain. The perpetuation of myths about chronic pain only serves to hurt individuals with chronic pain, through misinformation and stigma. Individuals living with chronic pain are not a small part of the population. There are approximately 50 million Americans (CDC) who deal with chronic pain on a daily basis, meaning 1 in 5 adults may be dealing with chronic pain. This number may grow as the population continues to age.
