Different physicians will have different opinions on what may warrant the use of a trigger point injection. Some physicians are willing to treat fibromyalgia with trigger point injections, while others will find conditions that cause widespread pain to be unsuitable for trigger point injection treatments.
With a trigger point injection, a doctor uses a small needle at the site of the trigger point. The injection contains an anesthetic or saline, and may also have a corticosteroid. Several trigger points may be targeted. Sustained relief may be achieved after just a brief visit to the doctor.
