Chest Pain

Chest pain can be experienced for various reasons. The type of pain also varies per individual. While some chest pain requires immediate medical attention, others, although scary, do not pose a threat to life. Chest pain causes may include cardiac, pulmonary, vascular, anxiety, gastrointestinal, etc. It can also result from inflammation or nerve pain. A health care professional will need to make the determination as to the cause of chest pain.

Individuals should seek immediate medical treatment if there are any doubts about the cause of chest pain, especially if it is new or unexpected. If chest pain occurs with shortness of breath, dizziness, sweating, chest pressure, or shoulder, arm, or jaw pain, call 911 or seek emergency medical attention as these are symptoms of a possible heart attack.
